First day down!

We did it! We all survived our first day of school! Your children are so fun. Seriously, they said some of the darndest things today. One boy raised his hand at carpet to say, "You're doing a really good job Mrs. Beirdneau!", another one said, "I love our class" in which we all responded, "we love you too!". And when someone was missing his mom, they were all so concerned and trying to make him feel better. They are adorable. I'm excited for this school year to unfold.


You should have all received your child's homework binder in their backpack, along with a mini pack of M&Ms. I did my best to make sure every child took their M&Ms pack but if they didn't, the activity is as follows:

My First Day of Kindergarten:

A Rainbow of Fun!

1.     Open the package with mom or dad and choose a color.

2.     Read the question or statement that goes with that color of M&M.

3.     Have fun talking with mom or dad about your day!

Red: What book did you read together today?

Orange: Tell about the Kindergarten rules.

Yellow: Tell about the best part of your day.

Green: Tell about a new friend you met.

Blue: What is your teacher’s name?

Brown: What letter did you learn today?

In the homework binders you will find your child's reading folder. Please read tonight and return the folder tomorrow, and everyday after that. You'll also find directions/information on all things Kindergarten. Come talk to me if you have any questions about what you find in there. 

Tonight's homework is to do the M&M activity with your child. Tomorrow you will start the ABC book with the letter Cc.  Tomorrow I will be sending home our newsletter with important dates, and the show and tell theme to begin next week (pst...it's to tell the class when your birthday is, using at least month and day, and they can add in year if they are feeling ambitious.) They won't be bringing anything to this show and tell, just sharing their birthday. 

I will do my best to get your children out on time. I apologize for us being a few minutes late today. That first day is always a doozy since the kids aren't familiar with the routines yet. But we'll get the hang of it and get out the door in a timely manner.
