We started our rock unit in science on Friday. It will continue through all of this upcoming week. Here are the learning standards we're addressing in this unit:

Observe and record that big rocks break down into small rocks, e.g., boulders, rocks, pebbles, sand.

Demonstrate how water and wind move nonliving things.

Sort, group, and classify Earth materials, e.g., hard, smooth, rough, shiny, flat.
So on Friday we started by observing lots of different kinds of rocks. Then each student picked one to do a short report on. This report was then glued into our science notebooks that the students will get to take home at the end of the school year. The kids got really excited about this activity. Children sure do love rocks. :) Here are some photos of our exploration.
